What Is Bone Broth & Do You Need It?

If you didn’t already know, bone broth is pretty much “soup for the soul.”
It is a nutrient-dense liquid that is full of gelatin, vitamins, and minerals, which helps promite a healthy gut intergrity, reduces inflammation and helps increase better digestion.

I for one am not someone to tell you that you must have it as part of your diet… but I will definitely advise, especially if I truly believe something is worth it after I have tried and tested it for myself.

So do I think you should invest in it? Hell yes! Because it doesn’t just offer a flavoured soup to sip on, it actually provides your body and general wellbeing with heaps of benefits, that is, over good time with consistency.

Not all the benefits may apply to you right now, but it can at some stage. Bone broth can:

1. ALLEVIATE JOINT PAIN AND PROMOTE HEALTHY BONES.

When you drink the broth, your body absorbs the gelatin created from the bone. It strengthens your bones and promotes joint health by providing a cushion-like coating for your joints. This cushion supplements your natural collagen and helps your joints glide without friction. This is not only for ageing bones, yet for anyone growing!

2. IT’S GOOD FOR GUT HEALTH

My main reason as to why I started having bone broth in the first place. Because it is full of amino acids (which are the building blocks from the collagen), it helps to restore and strengthen the gut lining, which helps to fight any food sensitivities you may have, or even ones you’re not even aware of. This is applicable to me with having consumed wheat and dairy my whole life, yet damanging my gut.

It also promotes the growth of probiotics (good bacteria) in the gut, and supports healthy inflammation levels in the digestive tract. So if you’re aware you have bad bacteris and don’t already take probiotics then bone broth will definitely help.

Bone broth is also easily digested and is soothing for your digestive system, unlike many other foods, which can be difficult to fully break down. So if you are aware of having low stomach acid or the fact that you just can’t break foods down that easily, this is for you!

3. IT BOOSTS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM.

Drinking bone broth has been credited for signs of overall improvement in the immune system. They say people are less likely to get the common cold or flu.

Why is this? Most likely because with the gut is healing and becoming healthier, whereas unhealthy guts cause the immune system to release antibodies that attack healthy tissue in an autoimmune-like response. When the gut is restored, natural immune responses are re-established. Warm bone broth + Winter = perfect combination anyway!

Bone broth also does improve mood, energy levels, and healthy sleep to some extent, along with proper nutrition and rest in general.

4. AND ENCOURAGES HEALTHY SKIN AND SHINY HAIR.

Collagen is responsible for creating healthy skin and hair because when your body lacks the appropriate amount of collagen, your body’s connective tissue deteriorates and turns into cellulite.

I haven’t been diagnosed with “leaky gut” or IBS, but I definitely have similar symptoms. I do know that my gut health was only getting worse when I did not put my mind to what I was actually consuming. So, overtime more bad bacterias and toxins were forming and growing, causing a lot of stresses on my gut. However the benefits of bone broth has for sure helped me feel so much better!

When my boyfriend and I went on a hunt for some bone broth, it had been a fluke that we picked up ‘Meadow & Marrow Bone Broth’ brand out of the many others around it on the shelves. I totally think it was meant to be…!

Bone broth is usually meant to be drunk instead of used for cooking, however I find either way works well! Just make sure if you choose to cook with the bone broth that it is from the culinary range, as not all are designed for cooking with.

It can be had as snack or meal replacement.
I tend to have a cup just before I have a meal, to prepare my body for solid food.
